Kew Gardens in spring
Seasons and flowering times, especially in spring, can vary
by up to three weeks so the periods below are only approximate.
March to May sees the full spread of spring starting with over
two million crocuses between the Victoria Gate Centre and King William's
Temple and camellias on the way to the Marianne North Gallery. Daffodils
and narcissi are naturalised all over the Gardens and the copious
plantings of daffodils either side of the Broad Walk are a fine
sight.
In mid-spring, the Cherry Walk, with 300,000 scillas planted beneath
its trees, can be stunning, along with the total of more than 900,000
wild daffodils, crocuses and snake's head fritillaries planted between
the Lilac Garden and the Magnolia Collection, both in glorious flower.
The spring bedding outside the Palm House is a definite must-see,
and elsewhere, crab apple trees and wisterias are in flower.
Later, there are carpets of bluebells in the Conservation Area;
rhododendrons and azaleas in Capability Brown's Rhododendron Dell
and stunning miniature flowers in the Rock Garden.
