SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS (2001-2005)
- World Rubiaceae Checklist available on the Internet
- Near-complete species phylogeny for Coffea, and other significant works on the genus sent to press
- Publication of Flora Zambesiaca (vol. 5, part 3) in 2004, authored by D. Bridson and B. Verdcourt
- Publication of monographs (Amaracarpus, Dolianthus, Hymenocnemis) and regional revisions (Psychotria, Rudgea), treating c. 70 species. More than 50 new species of Rubiaceae published in other publications, including 16 new species of Coffea. Approximately 30 IUCN conservation assessments disseminated.
KEY ELEMENTS OF FUTURE PLANS (2006 onwards)
- Publish hardcopy of World Rubiaceae Checklist possibly with CD-ROM, and integrate checklist maintenance with curation procedures
- Continue publication of high impact Coffea publications and continue building Coffea resources for further research and conservation products
- Develop further expertise and capacity for naming specimens from Africa, Madagascar and Asia
- Continue targeted collection of Rubiaceae specimens and Coffea samples, including DNA samples
- Accelerate Rubiaceae of Madagascar project by producing more regional monographs and synoptic revisions, in collaboration with Malagasy counterparts
- Initiate further research and develop a programme for molecular systematics of Rubiaceae
- Increase the rate at which IUCN conservation assessments are assigned and disseminated for Rubiaceae taxa
