Volunteer Schools Explainers

Role Description

image - school explainerAs a volunteer explainer your primary responsibility will be to welcome and orient school aged visitors (key stage 1-3) at various locations throughout Kew Gardens during the busy school visits season.

Experienced education and museums persons or those with a background in performance are welcome but even if you have no experience at all - don’t worry - training is provided!

You will be engaging and involving children and their adult chaperons in the various exhibits around the gardens. Using artefacts, samples and props to encourage their curiosity and allow them to contribute their experiences relating to the particular exhibit.

You will also have an eye for the big picture as you contribute to managing visitor flow around locations within the Gardens; diverting people from congested areas. You will be a point of contact for schools visitors needing guidance and will have the ability to suggest programme ideas for groups without a program pre-planned. You will be able to check the education visitors vouchers and organise incoming school groups as to where they are to go for their pre-booked programmes.

This role would suit parents with children at school or persons looking for skills development in the beautiful surroundings of Kew Gardens. You must be available weekdays only 9.45 am -2.15 pm or part time within those hours.

Please do not enquire by telephone. Application form & CV ONLY to:
