CRAFTSMore Willow Designs for the Garden NEW!
Friday 28 November
10am – 4pm
Tutor: John Waller
Venue: Wakehurst Place
Come on this new willow design course and learn how
to make two garden structures, including a woven dragonfly sculpture
and decorative fan trellis. Coppiced willow is a very versatile material and
when worked ‘green’ is
easily, bent, split or twisted.
During the workshops, emphasis will be
placed on the creative side of rustic design and in particular, the careful
selection of materials required to produce structures which combine strength
with natural beauty.
Course Fee: £65 (£55 Concessions, Friends
of Kew)
Participants can take home the structures they make on this course so some
thought to transportation versus size of structure required should be given
before enrolling. Small versions can easily be made to carry on to trains,
buses etc. although full size versions will require a roomy car or roof rack.
Living Willow Seats
Tuesday 10 March
10.30am – 5pm
Tutor: John Waller
Venue: Wakehurst Place
Because many willows are so flexible, and because willow
roots when pushed into the soil, it provides an excellent material for
instant, living garden structures. On this course you’ll be using
willow to create a delightful woven living seat with a canopy/hood. You’ll
need to get it home – and
have somewhere to plant it but you’ll be the envy of your friends
when you do!
Course Fee: £65 (£55 Concessions, Friends of
Kew)
The size of the finished willow seat is approximately 6ft high by 20 inches
diameter. So some thought to transportation should be given before enrolling
as you will require a roomy car or roof rack in order to get it home!
